Xiaozhaojia Site

Xiaozhaojia Site, a relic site from the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, is located 1.5 kilometers southeast of Beixiaozhao Village, Qinhuangtai Township, Bincheng District. The site stretches 800 meters from north to south and 700 meters from east to west, covering a total area of approximately 560,000 square meters. In 1972, during the excavation of the Chuguan River for diverting water from the Yellow River, four red pottery urn coffins and helmet-shaped vessels were unearthed. In 1981, a more detailed survey and drilling investigation were conducted at the site. Below 3.5 meters in the Chuguan River section lies a cultural layer about 0.8 meters thick. Collected samples include rims and bases of artifacts such as red pottery jars, gray pottery basins, urns, and helmet-shaped vessels. The vessel walls are thick, decorated with coarse rope patterns, exhibiting features typical of the Eastern Zhou period. Due to years of silt deposition from the Yellow River, the site is buried deep underground, with most sections of the cultural layer located around 4 meters below the surface. In 1983, it was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by the People’s Government of Binzhou City.
