The Maojiao Terrace Ruins

The Maojiao Terrace Ruins are located on Beijie Street, Binbei Subdistrict, Bincheng District. Legend has it that this was the hermitage of Mao Jiao, a minister of Qin Shi Huang, and a shrine was later built on the site. The terrace now stands approximately 18 meters high, measuring over 60 meters from east to west and about 50 meters from north to south at the top. A cross-section of the remaining earthen platform reveals clear layers of rammed earth, with each layer containing a large number of pottery shards, bricks, tiles, and porcelain fragments. Stone axes, stone chisels, and helmet-shaped artifacts have been unearthed from the terrace. It is understood that there was originally a Zhenwu Temple on the terrace, which was renovated during the Ming Dynasty, and the renovated Zhenwu Temple’s stele finial remains preserved at the base of the terrace. In 1983, it was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by the People's Government of Binzhou City.
