Yellow River Estuary Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery
The Yellow River Estuary Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a Shandong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism attraction, a patriotic education base, and a national defense education base.
The predecessor of the Yellow River Estuary Martyrs' Cemetery was the Kenli County Martyrs' Cemetery, which was established in 1970. It was relocated in August 1994, covering an area of 78 mu. Construction and partial operation began in May 1995, and it was officially named the "Dongying City Yellow River Estuary Martyrs' Cemetery" by the municipal government in October 1995. In 2001, the Yellow River Estuary Martyrs' Cemetery was designated by the provincial government as a "Provincial Key Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Building Protection Unit." In 2010, it was named one of the first "Demonstration Units for Professional Ethics Construction in the Civil Affairs System of the Province" by the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs.
Currently, the Yellow River Estuary Martyrs' Cemetery serves as a "Shandong Provincial National Defense Education Base," one of the "64 Red Tourism Attractions in Shandong Province," a "Dongying City Patriotic Education Base," a "Dongying City Dual-Support Construction Demonstration Site," and a "Shengli Oilfield National Defense Education Base." The cemetery is divided into three burial areas: the Unknown Martyrs' Cemetery, which mainly interred 72 martyrs who sacrificed during the anti-sweeping campaigns and the Battle of Sanlizhuang in 1942 and 1943, as well as the Battle of Liberating Lijin County; the Named Martyrs' Cemetery, which mainly interred 21 martyrs who died in battles such as the War of Resistance against Japan, the Liberation War, the Korean War, and during the construction of socialism in the new era, including notable figures such as Martyrs Zhang Qinglin and Guo Xueqin; and the Concentrated Burial Area for Scattered Martyrs, which primarily consists of some scattered martyr graves relocated from various towns (streets), interring nearly 40 martyrs who sacrificed in the War of Resistance against Japan, the Liberation War, and the construction of socialism. Since 2012, efforts have been made to protect scattered martyr graves across the county, relocating some of them to the martyrs' cemetery for protection and management, while also erecting on-site memorial tablets for over 130 scattered martyr graves throughout the county.
On June 23, 2015, the Yellow River Estuary Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery was announced by the Shandong Provincial People's Government as part of the fifth batch of Shandong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units.
