Baicha Horse

The Baicha Horse originates from the Baichagou area of Hexigten Banner, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia, China. The local rocks are hard and the roads rugged. Through years of adaptation, the Baicha Horse has developed extremely tough hooves, allowing it to traverse mountainous rocky trails without horseshoes, earning it the nickname “Iron-Hoof Horse.”

The Baicha Horse is characterized by a compact and symmetrical build, short and upright pasterns, and small, rounded hooves with firm hoof quality and underdeveloped fetlock hair. Adult stallions have an average height, body length, chest girth, and cannon bone circumference of 132.4 cm, 139.3 cm, 163.1 cm, and 17.6 cm respectively, while adult mares measure 125.1 cm, 134.8 cm, 159.6 cm, and 16.4 cm respectively.

Bohai Horse

The Bohai Horse is primarily bred in the three northeastern regions of Shandong Province—Huimin, Changwei, and Yantai—as well as in coastal counties of Weifang City along the Bohai Sea, with Guangrao, Shouguang, and Kenli counties as its core production areas. The Bohai Horse is a versatile draft and riding breed. It has a sturdy constitution, balanced conformation, and a gentle temperament, with stallions exhibiting a strong presence. It has a refined head with a straight profile, large eyes, and upright ears. The neck is of medium length with good neck-shoulder connection. The withers are prominent. The body is robust, with a wide and deep chest and a straight back and loin. The limbs are dry, with distinct joints, good angulation, and tough hooves. The common coat colors are bay and chestnut, with fewer black or blue roan horses, often featuring a small star on the forehead.

Adult stallions have an average height, body length, chest girth, and cannon bone circumference of 149.7±4.5 cm, 154.5±5.2 cm, 179.5±7.9 cm, and 20.7±1.7 cm respectively, while adult mares measure 143.8±4.5 cm, 149.7±5.3 cm, 169.3±7.6 cm, and 19.1±1.1 cm respectively. The Bohai Horse adapts well to the natural environment of its breeding region, is tolerant of coarse feed, has strong fat-retention ability, high fertility, great pulling power, and a brisk gait. The normal pulling capacity of a Bohai mare is 63–70 kg, which is over 40% higher than that of local horse breeds.
