Zhishi Township is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Yellow River Estuary Zhishi Township, jointly invested in and operated by Dongying Dongli Agricultural Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd. and the Canadian Dongying Chamber of Commerce, makes full use of the natural landscape at the estuary of the Yellow River and the historic site of the former First Division of the Shandong Construction Corps. It complements the Yellow River Estuary Ecotourism Area, located just five kilometers away, forming a distinctive and culturally rich “sister attraction” at the mouth of the Yellow River. They are independent yet interdependent — the Yellow River Estuary Ecotourism Area showcases a globally unique natural landscape, while the Yellow River Estuary Zhishi Township presents a humanistic landscape bearing the imprints of a special era.

The waters of the Yellow River come from the heavens, rushing to the sea never to return. The Yellow River Estuary Zhishi Township deeply explores the cultural essence of the Yellow River as well as the red cultural genes of military farming, agricultural reclamation, and the Zhishi (educated youth) movement. Blending these with contemporary cultural creativity, and leveraging the legacy architecture of the former Yellow River Farm, it has planned and designed a cultural-tourism model centered around “one axis, two lines, three themes, and four zones.” The “one axis” refers to the Zhishi Culture Landscape Axis, which includes venues rich in Zhishi culture such as the Passion – Nostalgia Garden of the Years, the Zhishi Museum, the Zhishi Art Gallery, and the Zhishi Canteen. The “two lines” are the Yellow River Miniature Landscape Experience Line and the Zhishi Spirit Learning Experience Line. These two experience lines vividly present, for the first time, the winding and majestic flow of the Yellow River through nine provinces, and seamlessly connect the innovative spirit of hard work demonstrated by the educated youth with the innovative development of the new era. The “three themes” consist of relatively independent zones themed around Yellow River culture, Zhishi culture, and farming culture, offering immersive experiences that convey the distinct cultural meanings of each. The “four zones” include the Zhishi Homestay Zone, the Cultural Exhibition Zone, the Study & Education Zone, and the Farming Experience Zone. These aim to establish characteristic centers grounded in practicality and hands-on learning, such as a red education base, a youth study and education practice base, an artists’ sketching and creation base, and a hot spring wellness center. At the same time, they integrate the natural and humanistic landscapes related to the Yellow River’s nine provinces, traditional farming culture, and the Zhishi movement, making the Yellow River Estuary Zhishi Township the premier destination for experiencing Zhishi culture.

Covering an area of 350 acres with a construction area of 22,750 square meters and a total investment of 200 million yuan, the Yellow River Estuary Zhishi Township preserves the most representative ecological features of the Yellow River Estuary region. It encapsulates the vivid humanistic sentiments of the older generation of pioneers and extends creative space for artists of the new era. It is both a starting point for nostalgia and a birthplace of creativity. The park features creatively designed zones infused with cultural elements and the spirit of the times, including a bonfire campsite, a drama stage, a Yellow River Oil Painting Museum, a Painters’ Village, a hot spring resort, and an RV campground. These will provide a platform for artistic expression and inspire boundless creativity for those with artistic talent and innovative thinking.

The Yellow River Estuary Zhishi Township is 30 kilometers from Shengli Airport. It offers dedicated urban bus lines and inter-site tourist shuttles, and can accommodate up to 400 guests for food and lodging, as well as host small and medium-sized conferences. Its unique location advantages and convenient transportation have also helped establish the Yellow River Estuary Zhishi Township as a demonstration site for the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ “Science and Technology Project for Building a Beautiful China’s Ecological Civilization,” as well as an important red education and study base in Shandong.
