Pipa Bay Park

Pipa Bay Park is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Pipa Bay Park is located in the city center of Pingyuan County, on the south side of Ping’an Avenue and adjacent to the east of Wenhua South Road. It was built on the site of demolished areas that included the former Dufuying Village, Dongguan Village, as well as the county’s Agricultural Bank, Salt Company, and Agriculture Bureau. The park is named Pipa Bay because the bay’s shape resembles a pipa (a traditional Chinese lute), and there is a sweet-water well nearby where local residents once drew their daily water. When many residents collected water at the same time and the water level dropped, the dripping sound of the spring inside the well resembled the notes of a pipa being played—hence the name. Around Pipa Bay are historical sites such as the Dragon Gate Tower, Zhang Liang’s Fasting Bridge, and the Three-Step-Two-Well, all accompanied by beautiful stories and moving legends. It is the most naturally distinctive and culturally rich geographical area in Pingyuan County.

Pipa Bay Park was completed in 2009, covering a total area of 33 hectares, including 10 hectares of water surface. Designed by Shanghai CSCEC Design Institute, the park takes ecological construction and the refinement of Central Plains Han culture as its starting points, and follows the concept of “natural ecology, intellectual historical exploration, leisurely vibrancy, and freehand charm.” It has been planned and designed with a landscape layout of “one bay, two loops, four zones, and eight scenic spots.” The one bay refers to Pipa Bay; the two loops are formed by the north-south main garden road, creating two differently styled water-surrounding scenic areas to the east and west; the four zones are the Northwest Cultural Art Celebration Zone, Southwest Commercial Folk Custom Zone, Northeast Historical and Cultural Sightseeing Zone, and Southeast Public Fitness and Leisure Zone; the eight scenic spots are Misty Rain over Painted Bridge, Peach Orchard against Rosy Clouds, Towering Pavilion with Distant View, Ancient Ferry Enveloped in Clouds, Morning Bell Ringing in the Temple, Willow and Blossom along the Long Dike, Dragon Pool Echoing Sounds, and Hazy Shadows of the Ancient City.

Pipa Bay Park provides citizens with a multifunctional, comprehensive activity space integrating sightseeing, tourism, games, fitness, shopping, and various other recreational activities.
