A 1,000-meter-high suspension bridge—the longest in Taiwan—offers breathtaking views of vast sea of clouds and plains

Meishan Township in Chiayi, home to the nation’s longest single-span scenic suspension bridge — the Taiping Skywalk, began construction in 2014. After going through various phases, it is finally set to be completed and open to visitors this July. In recent years, attractions such as skywalks and sky ladders have become hugely popular, attracting many adventure-seeking tourists. To compete with Pingtung’s Glass Bridge, Chiayi’s Taiping Skywalk spans 281 meters and sits at an altitude of about 1,000 meters, connecting the Wangfeng Platform in Taiping Village, Meishan, with the San Yuan Rainbow Waterfall. Visitors here can overlook the Jianan Plain and the vast sea of clouds, and even gaze as far as the Taiwan Strait, taking in the entire view of valleys, waterfalls, and mountain scenery.
