The Ancient City of Pingyuan Commandery is a cultural heritage site protected by Shandong Province.

【Ruins of the Tang Dynasty Pingyuan Commandery Ancient City】The ancient city of Pingyuan Commandery from the Tang Dynasty is located within the county seat of Ling County. At that time, the commandery city had three layers of walls—the outer wall was about five zhang high, about two zhang wide at the top, and the city circumference was ten kilometers. It was constructed during the tenure of Yan Zhenqing as prefect. Three sections of the Tang-era ancient city walls still remain.

During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, Emperor Qin Shi Huang placed it under Qi Commandery. Emperor Gaozu of Han split it off from Qi Commandery to establish Pingyuan Commandery, which was renamed Pingyuan Kingdom in the Jin Dynasty. The Song, Later Wei, and Later Zhou dynasties reverted to calling it Pingyuan Commandery. At the beginning of the Sui Dynasty, Pingyuan Commandery was abolished and replaced with Dezhou; Emperor Yang later reinstated the name Pingyuan Commandery. The Tang Dynasty re-established Dezhou, and later it was sometimes referred to as Pingyuan Commandery again.

In 2013, the Ancient City of Pingyuan Commandery was announced by the People’s Government of Shandong Province as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units in Shandong.

Linqi Subdistrict: Linqi Subdistrict (formerly Lingcheng Town) is a township-level administrative unit under Lingcheng District, Dezhou City, Shandong Province, China.

In August 2013, the Dezhou Municipal Government officially approved the establishment of Linqi Subdistrict in Ling County.
