Jinan Huayang Palace

The Huayang Palace ancient architectural complex is an old Taoist temple in Jinan. Located in the northeastern part of Jinan, it sits on the plain south of the Yellow River and north of the Xiaoqing River. It lies against Huashan Mountain (also known as Huabuzhu), faces Mirror Lake (also called Jinguang Lake), and features a terraced layout that follows the natural terrain with varying heights, orderly spacing, and well-planned arrangement. It is the largest-scale ancient architectural complex in the Jinan area and also preserves over 500 square meters of ancient murals.

Huayang Palace is situated in the northeastern part of Jinan, on the plain south of the Yellow River. It lies against Huashan Mountain (also known as Huabuzhu) and faces Mirror Lake (also called Jinguang Lake). It is the largest-scale ancient architectural complex in the Jinan area and also houses over 500 square meters of ancient murals. On September 3, 1979, it was designated by the Jinan Municipal Government as one of the first batch of key cultural relics protection units.

To the northeast of Jinan lies Huabuzhu Mountain, commonly referred to as Huashan. In the fourth year of the Xingding era during the Jin Dynasty, Chen Zhiyuan, a disciple of Qiu Chuji, the leader of the Quanzhen School of Taoism, built Huayang Palace at the southern foot of the mountain. It has since been hailed as a “scenic gem of Lixia” and a “magnificent sight of Jinan.” Nestled by the mountain and lake, the palace features an uneven and well-spaced layout. Originally composed of more than 10 courtyards, it is the largest and oldest Taoist temple in Jinan, with incense burning year-round and worshippers visiting in all seasons. In 1979, it was listed by the Jinan Municipal Government as one of the first batch of key cultural relics protection units.

Take bus routes 3, 84, 89, or 70 and get off at Hehua Intersection; take bus K97 to Huashan Scenic Area and walk 200 meters north.
