Boleyu Leisure Resort is located in the southern mountainous area of Jinan, 15 kilometers from downtown Jinan, making it the closest scenic spot in the suburbs. Covering an area of approximately 2,586 acres, it can be directly accessed by traveling east along Provincial Highway 103 (2 kilometers south of the Dajiankou South Ring Expressway), offering very convenient transportation. The resort is surrounded by the serene peaks of the Taihang Mountain range, featuring steep ridges, winding valleys, secluded paths, and post-rain misty clouds. “Cup your hands with the drifting clouds as if playing in water—who says there’s no paradise on earth? The forest coverage in the resort exceeds 70%, and the mountains are rich in resources, scattered with various rare medicinal herbs. Blossoming apricot, peach, pear, and pomegranate flowers create a stunning landscape. There are also about 20,000 fruit trees, including apricot, peach, apple, persimmon, walnut, and prickly ash trees. The area boasts numerous historical sites and attractions, such as the ruins of Xiangshan Temple, the Cave of the Three Saints, Dragon Subduing Cave, Tiger Taming Cave, Immortal Spring, Lovers’ Tree, Maitreya Buddha Mountain, Eight-Mu Land, Moonland, and Crouching Tiger Ridge. Each site is steeped in ancient and touching legends—many stories from *Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio* originated here. The mountain is covered with lush vegetation and towering trees, allowing daytime stargazing, listening to springs on clear days, and hearing the ocean-like sound of the mountain streams on quiet days. Due to the rugged terrain, the headquarters of the Huang Chao peasant uprising was established at Dingzi Village, and a military vehicle road was built halfway up the mountain, with remnants still visible today. The small stone huts, which have stood for at least 200 years, are windproof but not waterproof, featuring no beams, crossbeams, or pillars. The terraced fields, layered up to the mountaintop or down to the valley, along with the former site of the Educated Youth Village, evoke many memories. The resort includes restaurants with classical Chinese architecture, the Triple-Lake, Twin-Dragon Pool, and Clear Pool. It also offers accommodation, conference hosting, swimming, fishing, and children’s water play areas—transforming this once desolate valley into a premier leisure, vacation, and sightseeing destination. The character “Yuan” (meaning fate or connection) is seen everywhere, reflecting the long-standing influence of Buddhist culture.
