Red Leaf Valley Ten Thousand Leaves Tower

The Ten Thousand Leaves Tower is located in Red Leaf Valley, a highly recommended destination in Jinan, situated in the southern mountainous area of the city.

The tower is built in the traditional Chinese style as a hexagonal, upturned-eave, pointed-top stone pagoda, with seven levels, inspired by the Buddhist saying that saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. As the ancients wrote: “To gaze afar, ascend yet another floor.” Therefore, climbing to the top of the Ten Thousand Leaves Tower offers a panoramic view of the entire Red Leaf Valley, allowing you to take in all the scenic spots from above.

Buses only go as far as the foot of the Red Leaf Valley mountain, after which you’ll need to transfer to another vehicle to head up into the hills. The valley is covered with red leaves everywhere, and the scenery is truly stunning. At the large square near the valley entrance, many local elders sell dried and wild mountain fruits, usually for one yuan per small bag. The taste is quite good — worth trying something new.

Warm Tips:

The best time to visit Red Leaf Valley to see the red foliage is at the end of October or early November. If you go too early, the leaves won’t have turned red yet. At that time, there’s still water in the valley, so you get mountains, water, and a really spiritual atmosphere.

Halfway up the mountain, above Xingjiao Temple, within the Red Leaf Valley Scenic Area in the southern suburbs of Jinan

Transportation

You can take a bus from downtown Jinan, but the bus only goes as far as outside the scenic area. There’s still quite a distance from the drop-off point to the main gate, so you’ll need to take a local taxi from there.

The best option is to arrange for a full transfer by vehicle.
