Jinan Lingjiu Temple

Jinan Lingjiu Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

Lingjiu Chanlin is located in Xixing Village, Gangou Town, and is one of the four famous Lingjiu Temples. It is regarded as the foremost Buddhist sacred site east of Jinan. Legend has it that the temple was built in the early Tang Dynasty when Emperor Li Shimin led his army on an eastern campaign and stationed troops here. Seeing the area as blessed with outstanding people and spiritual energy, he constructed the “Wusheng Hall” here. One midnight, as Li Shimin slept deeply in front of the Wusheng Hall, he suddenly heard a strange cry. When he opened his eyes, he saw a magnificent bird with radiant, colorful plumage perched in front of the Wusheng Hall. After lingering for a moment, the bird soared into the sky. Li Shimin believed it to be a manifestation of the divine, and soon after, he won a great battle. Later, he renovated the Wusheng Hall and renamed it Lingjiu Temple. When Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty passed through this area on his way to Mount Tai for the Fengshan ceremony, he stayed at Lingjiu Temple and lectured on sutras with the revered monk Foguo, who deeply impressed him. Later, Foguo raised funds to renovate Lingjiu Temple.
