Huayang Palace Ancient Architectural Complex

The Huayang Palace Ancient Architectural Complex is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

Huayang Palace originated in the Jin Dynasty, flourished in the Jin Dynasty, and took its final form during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Integrating Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, the palace complex is built against a mountain with a well-arranged layout. It was designated as one of the first batch of key cultural relics protection units by the Jinan Municipal Government as early as 1979, and is the largest ancient architectural complex in the Jinan area.

The Huayang Palace Ancient Architectural Complex is located in the northeastern part of Jinan City, south of the Yellow River and north of the Xiaoqing River on the plain. To the north lies Mount Hua, also known as Huabuzhu, and to the south is Mirror Lake. Built along the contours of the mountain, the structures are arranged at varying heights in an orderly and well-spaced fashion. The photo shows the main gate of Huayang Palace, which features a tall platform base.

Huayang Palace became one of the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in Jinan in 1979 and is now a provincial-level cultural relic protection site. It is the largest ancient architectural complex in the Jinan area. Entering through the Er Gong Men (Second Gate) at the entrance, visitors can see the Owl Forest, where numerous ancient trees around 900 years old stand guard within the courtyard. The entire Huayang Palace Ancient Architectural Complex consists of nine independent courtyards, with 34 ancient buildings still standing, covering a construction area of approximately 2,500 square meters and a total area of about 18,000 square meters. The well-known Jinan story "Swallow Li San" was filmed here. Today, it has become a tourist attraction with an admission fee of 10 yuan.
