Jinan Woniu Mountain Park

Woniu Mountain is located in Huashan Subdistrict, Licheng District, with an elevation of 81.8 meters and covering an area of 1,027 mu. Originally named Liushan and also known as Jiuli Mountain, it earned the name Woniu (lying ox) Mountain due to its resemblance to a reclining ox. The park integrates functions such as landscape appreciation, sightseeing and leisure, recreational fitness, and science education. It is divided into five major scenic areas (the main entrance scenic area, geological culture exhibition area, distinctive geological landscape area, temporary food and beverage sales area, and natural mountain forest leisure and fitness area), featuring nearly twenty attractions.

Among them, key scenic spots such as the Legacy of the Lying Ox, Forest Mist Whisper, Fragrance Along the Stream, Wildflower Valley, Waterfall Over the Cliff, Rock Garden, and Landscape Pond fully showcase the beauty of mountain rocks, water scenes, vegetation, and historical culture, forming a uniquely distinctive geological landscape. Historically, the Woniu Mountain area was once an ancient battlefield. According to the *Jinan Prefecture Records*, in 204 BC, Han Xin stationed troops on Woniu Mountain when he captured Li Xia. This story was later adapted into the drama *Capturing Li City*. It is one of Jinan’s “Nine Spots of Qi Smoke.”

The establishment of the Woniu Mountain Geological Park Construction Command of Licheng District, Jinan in 2013 marked the beginning of Woniu Mountain’s magnificent transformation. As a key municipal project led and implemented by the Licheng District Committee and District Government, the Woniu Mountain project was transformed over three years into a geological park integrating functions such as landscape appreciation, sightseeing and leisure, recreational fitness, and science education. It not only improved the natural and living environment of Woniu Mountain but also played an important role in the surrounding economic development and the construction of the Huashan Historical and Cultural Park, showcasing a different urban landscape image and charm for Jinan.
