Summer Retreat Spring

Summer Retreat Spring is located in a mountain hollow on the western side of Nanling in Yuanhongyu, Liubu Subdistrict. It is recorded in both the Ming Dynasty’s Licheng County Annals and the Qing Dynasty’s Record of Seventy-Two Springs. It earned its name due to its cool climate, making it an ideal spot to escape the summer heat.

Today, it is a semi-exposed, enclosed circular pool. Water gushes from a round pipe in the pool wall, flows through a pond-shaped stone basin, and meanders into Chajiu River in Qichengyu Valley.

The spring flows from the mountainside into a square stone pool. It is now an enclosed, semi-exposed circular stone pool, with water exiting through a round hole in the pool wall and naturally flowing back into a water bend. When the water flow is strong, it overflows and runs down the valley into Chajiu River in Qichengyu Valley. It was once listed among the Seventy-Two Famous Springs of the Qing Dynasty.
