Tengjiao Spring

Tengjiao Spring is one of the 21 spring pools (including 2 lost springs) in the Pearl Spring Group of Jinan. It ranks as the 23rd among the newly selected Seventy-Two Famous Springs. Recorded in the Qing Dynasty by Hao Zhi Gong in his “Record of the Seventy-Two Springs,” it is described as: “Tengjiao, like a dragon soaring after catching the wind and rain.”

The spring is situated on the east side of the northern end of Wangfu Chiizi Street in the old city, near the intersection with Qifengqiao Street. The spring pool is rectangular, 1.5 meters deep, and enclosed by bluestone, presenting an exquisitely neat shape. The name “Tengjiao Spring” comes from the Tengjiao Qifeng Archway located to its west. In the past, there was a flagstone flat bridge called Qifeng Bridge near the archway, spanning a small stream where several springs—including Zhuoying Spring (also known as Wangfu Chiizi) and Zhusha Spring—converge and flow into Daming Lake. This created a naturally beautiful scene of famous springs, small bridges, flowing water, and nearby residences.
