Licheng District Museum

The Licheng District Museum is located on the third floor of the North Area of the Tangye Cultural and Museum Center in Licheng District. It covers an exhibition area of 1,000 square meters and features three exhibition halls: the Museum Collection Hall, the Ancient Daxinzhuang Shang Dynasty History and Culture Hall, and the Licheng Folk Customs Hall. These halls focus on showcasing the historical evolution and archaeological remains of Licheng County, highlighting the origins of Licheng and its experience as the capital of the Jinan Kingdom, commandery, and prefecture across different periods, demonstrating Licheng’s significant political status throughout history.

The museum boasts a rich collection of cultural relics, ranging from the Neolithic Age to the modern era. A large number of pottery artifacts are the most distinctive part of its holdings: including red pottery, gray pottery, painted pottery, and black pottery, which are diverse in type, exquisitely crafted, and aesthetically pleasing, displaying the unique characteristics of the Dongyi culture. Among its treasured items are the Sui Dynasty Four-Gate Pagoda sarira, an early Spring and Autumn period Lu Bo Daifu gui ritual vessel, a 2.3-meter-long ivory fossil, and a representative Longshan Culture artifact — the pottery gui. These rare relics are extremely uncommon even on a national level.

Since its trial operation in November 2017, the museum has continuously strengthened its hardware and software facilities, improved service content, and enhanced service capabilities. Currently, its three permanent exhibition halls are open to the public free of charge. Free admission hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (closed on Mondays), open as usual during holidays.
