Jinan Beiji Pavilion

Beiji Pavilion, also known as Beiji Temple, is one of the important historic sites around Daming Lake. Located on the northern shore of Daming Lake, it was first built in the 17th year of the Zhiyuan era of the early Yuan Dynasty (1280 AD), and is the largest existing Taoist temple in Jinan.

Beiji Pavilion is built atop thirty-six steps, standing tall and imposing. On its left and right are the Bell and Drum Towers. The main hall houses a statue of the God of the North, the True Martial Emperor, with murals depicting legends of the True Martial. Behind the main hall lies the Parents’ Hall, which enshrines the Sacred Father and Mother. Beiji Temple is a prominent high point on the northern shore of Daming Lake. From the temple platform, visitors enjoy an expansive view: to the south, a range of mountains forms a natural screen, while looking down at the lake, one sees misty willows and vast shimmering waters.

Beiji Pavilion is located on the northern shore of Daming Lake. Also known as Beiji Temple or Zhenwu Temple, it is a Taoist shrine. Constructed in the 17th year of the Zhiyuan era of the Yuan Dynasty (1280 AD), it was renovated during the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty. The temple is built on a stone platform over 7 meters high, consisting of front and rear halls, bell and drum towers, and east and west side rooms. The main hall enshrines the statue of the Northern Water Deity, the True Martial Emperor, accompanied by statues of the Turtle and Snake Generals and the Four Heavenly Lords—each vividly crafted with expressive features. The walls on both sides of the main hall feature murals about the deification of the True Martial Emperor, which hold significant artistic value. The rear hall, called Qisheng Hall, houses statues of the parents of the True Martial Emperor.
