Fanggan Ecotourism Area is a national AAAA-level scenic spot, located in Fanggan Village, Xueye Town, northern Laicheng District, Laiwu City. It borders Jinan to the north, Zibo to the east, and Tai’an to the west. National Highway 09 runs through the area, making transportation very convenient. The scenic area sits at an altitude of nearly 1,000 meters and is part of the Tai Mountain mountain range. With its majestic mountains, beautiful rivers, birdsong, floral fragrances, and pleasant scenery in all seasons, it has been praised by international environmental experts as a “green paradise.” The area boasts excellent ecological preservation, with forest vegetation covering 90% of the land, and is currently applying to be listed among the United Nations’ “Global 500 for Environmental Protection.” The scenic area features eight major landscapes: Jiulong Grand Canyon, Golden Mount Tai, Black Dragon Pool, Wanghai Peak, Immortal Cave, Motian Ridge, Dripping Water Cliff, and Five Elders Peak. There are over 40 scenic spots within the area, integrating mountains, water, forests, springs, pools, waterfalls, canyons, and caves, as well as folk legends about historical figures such as Huang Chao, Li Ben, Zhang Daoyi, Chen GanYu, and Old Li the Tailless. It possesses unique charm in terms of natural scenery, cultural landscapes, and ecological preservation, attracting both domestic and international visitors. It is an ideal destination for sightseeing, tourism, vacationing, and leisure.

Jiulong Grand Canyon stretches from north to south, winding with nine turns and eighteen bends, spanning approximately 10 kilometers in total length. The canyon features striking peaks, cascading waterfalls, deep gullies and cliffs, rugged rocks, towering ancient trees, and rare flowers and plants, making it a veritable fairyland and mystical realm, often hailed as the “Little Three Gorges.” It is home to the widely known Black Dragon Pool and the bright and charming Nine Maidens Pool. There are numerous cultural and natural attractions throughout the canyon, creating an atmosphere of mystery and wonder that sparks the curiosity of all visitors. Golden Mount Tai is also known as the “Little Eastern Sacred Mountain.” Legend has it that it served as the temporary palace for the Eastern Tour of the Goddess of Mount Tai. The mountain rises 800 meters abruptly from the ground, presenting a majestic presence. At its summit stands a 9-meter-tall Sea-Viewing Rock that pierces the sky; there is also a 30-meter-tall “Three-tiered Arhat” rock left by the Laughing Buddha after attaining enlightenment and ascending to heaven, as well as a 50-meter-long snake mark on the “Giant Python Rock” said to have been left by Emperor Wu of Han when he slashed a white snake with his sword. The mountaintop also features a heart-stirring rock weighing about 2 tons that can be moved with a push, evoking nostalgia and reflection among those who come here to explore ancient sites. The scenic area also offers folk culture tours, where visitors can stay in the well-off farmhouses of local villagers. The village can accommodate up to 1,000 tourists and allows participation in rural life, offering a taste of the joys of mountain village living. During festivals such as Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival, international visitors can experience local customs such as making dumplings, setting off firecrackers, enjoying lantern displays, and visiting mountain fairs. The entire tour can last up to two days.

Currently, the scenic area has a Black Dragon Pool parking lot that can accommodate 400 cars at the same time. Three European-style hotels, multiple mid-range hotels, and several ordinary inns and restaurants have been built, forming four major service areas centered around Luming Villa, Fanggan Cultural Courtyard, Golden Mount Tai, and Jiudie Spring. The area now has comprehensive service capabilities to host both domestic and international tour groups in terms of food, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, entertainment, and shopping, and can also accommodate various large, medium, and small-sized conferences.

Fanggan Village: Fanggan Village is located at the eastern foot of Mount Tai, “the foremost of the Five Great Mountains,” situated 40.5 kilometers northwest of Laicheng and 10.5 kilometers southwest of the town government seat. It borders Heishan Village to the east, Guanzheng Village to the west, Wangshimen Village to the south, and Fujiazhuang Village to the north. The village currently has 163 households and a population of 512, with 210 mu of arable land.

According to the “Han Family Genealogy,” during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, the Han family migrated here, while the Cui family had settled earlier. The location was originally called Fangwu Valley because it was situated in a mountain valley. During the Anti-Japanese War, officials often stayed here to carry out their work, and it was later renamed Fanggan.
