Sangyuan Village

Sangyuan Village is situated on the southern side of the national-level Lashan Forest Park, north of the renowned Lake Center Island, along the beautiful and fertile southern shore of Dongping Lake, at the foot of the scenic Jiliang Mountain, and west of Daimiao Town Government and National Highway 220. The village consists of 478 households and 1,495 people, with no cultivated land, and is entirely a fishing-focused village. It is one of the twenty-three natural villages within the first-level lake that were established by building platforms in the lake, forming a single administrative village. A secondary lake dike runs east-west through the village, encompassing over 30,000 mu of water surface and more than 380 fishing boats. The villagers rely entirely on lake fishing for their livelihood. Since 2010, our village has seized the opportunity of the booming tourism development in our county, leveraging the historical and cultural heritage and stunning natural scenery of Dongping Lake. Taking advantage of the favorable conditions and terrain, we have constructed 3,750 square meters of village sightseeing roads, built a fishing-style archway, a tourist dock, and a fitness square. The surrounding area features numerous Water Margin historical sites. For example, "Erdaopo" was one of the dangerous shoals of the ancient canal and also the hiding place of Ruan Xiaqi from *Water Margin* after he returned from suppressing Fang La. "Songtao Village," located 500 meters northeast of the village, covers an area of 5,000 square meters above the water surface and was the site where Zhu Gui ran a shop in *Water Margin* for the Liangshan heroes to kill the rich and aid the poor, as well as to gather information on government activities. "Xing Village," located 1,000 meters northwest of the village, is an island with over 10,000 square meters above the water surface. This area features deep, treacherous waters, dense reeds, and a secluded, hard-to-find location. It was historically used by the Liangshan heroes to ambush government officials and rob wealthy households of their treasures. It also served as one of the key filming locations for the old Shandong version of *Water Margin*, including scenes such as "Burning the Warships" and "The Three Ruan Brothers Capturing He Tao." Approximately 400 meters west of the village lies the self-driving attraction "Wild Reed Bay" and the important flood control project of Dongping Lake, "Jinshan Dam," which form a naturally formed sheltered bay. Visitors can go boating, fishing, casting nets, angling, picking fruits, and enjoying leisure activities here. Since the development of tourism infrastructure, it has boosted local industries such as catering, accommodation, and boat tours. Eighteen new "fishing home-stays" integrating dining, lodging, entertainment, and leisure have been added, along with ten specialty shops for tourism products. The area boasts beautiful landscapes and hospitable, simple, and generous locals. Over the years, it has been recognized by higher authorities as an "Advanced Unit in Tourism Project Development," a "Natural Ecological Civilization Village," and a "Provincial-Level Characteristic Tourism Village." It is the perfect destination for visitors to explore the homeland of *Water Margin*, savor delicious lake seafood, experience fishing village culture, and enjoy the natural scenery.
