Houhe Village

Houhe Village is located by the Dongping Lake and adjacent to the Lakeside Avenue, enjoying convenient transportation. Nestled against mountains and water, the village has a population of 1,420 and 480 households. To the south of the village lies Liugong Mountain on the western shore of Dongping Lake. With its main peak at an elevation of 189 meters and covering an area of approximately 4.6 square kilometers, the mountain boasts steep and beautiful natural scenery. It consists of twelve peaks, with every two peaks forming a "gong" (工) shape, totaling six such shapes; when viewed from the north side of the mountain, it resembles the character "six" (六), and from the west side, it looks like a "gong" (工), hence the name Liugong Mountain. In October 2009, an investment of over 200 million yuan was made to construct the project, which includes the Liugong Mountain Liangshan Film and Television City featuring a mountain stronghold, water stronghold, and Loyalty Hall. The project was completed in May 2010 and opened to visitors. The Liugong Mountain scenic area covers a total area of 620 mu, including a 120-mu mountain stronghold, a 400-mu water stronghold, and a 100-mu Loyalty Hall. It has become the only tourist attraction in Asia that combines both a mountain and water stronghold. Houhe Village features beautiful landscapes and hospitable, simple, and generous locals. In recent years, the village has been recognized multiple times as an advanced unit and a civilized village by higher authorities. To promote the sustainable and healthy development of tourism in Houhe Village, it has been nominated as a provincial-level tourism-characteristic village.

1. Liugong Mountain Liangshan Stronghold. The Liugong Mountain water stronghold has 8 ancient warships, 2 watchtowers, and a 3,600 m² water platform serving as a naval combat base, connected to the mountain stronghold via drawbridges and skybridge platforms. Integrating mountain and water elements seamlessly, the water stronghold is surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of natural wetlands, densely covered with reeds, where the three Ruan brothers once trained their navy and launched surprise attacks on government troops. The mountain stronghold features attractions such as the First Pass, Second Pass, Third Pass, the Bottle-Gourd City, the General-Appointing Platform, and the Boulder Array. The stronghold stretches 136 meters from north to south and 132 meters from east to west, situated on a cliff 21.35 meters above the lake surface. The fortress walls and towers stand 14.6 meters high, exuding grandeur and magnificence. Many of these sites served as primary filming locations for TV dramas such as the new version of “Water Margin,” “The Legend of Chu Liuxiang,” “Swordsmen,” and “The Case of Bu.”

2. Wetland Tourism. The areas surrounding the Liugong Mountain mountain and water strongholds feature tens of thousands of acres of natural wetlands of Dongping Lake, with an average depth of about 2 meters. The region boasts vast waters, crisscrossing waterways, crystal-clear water quality, harmonious integration of mountain and water, leaping fish, singing birds, and lush reeds, creating enchanting scenery. This complements the dense forests blanketing Liugong Mountain, resulting in a stunning blend where forests are in the water and water is within the forests—an exquisite fusion of forest and water that showcases the beautiful landscape of northern China. Moreover, with minimal human activity, the area largely retains its pristine natural beauty, providing excellent conditions for the development and construction of eco-wetland tourism spanning tens of thousands of acres.

3. Agritainment and Fishermen’s Hospitality. Seizing the opportunity of the county’s tourism development, Houhe Village has vigorously developed agritainment and fishermen’s hospitality around the Liugong Mountain mountain stronghold, providing both dining and accommodation services for tourists while increasing local incomes. Currently, there is one five-star Dongping Lake fishermen’s homestay, one four-star fishermen’s homestay, and two three-star fishermen’s homestays.
