Dongping Ancient City is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shandong Province.

Dongping Ancient City

Located in Ssucheng Village, Dongping Town, Dongping County, in the northwest area, it was the capital site of the Dongping Kingdom during the transition between the Western and Eastern Han dynasties. The city site is roughly rectangular, approximately 1,600 meters long from east to west and about 1,300 meters wide from north to south. Remnants of rammed earth city walls from the Han Dynasty still exist at the northwest, northeast, and southeast corners of the site. The area contains a wealth of cultural relics, with surface artifacts including road nail bricks, gray pottery dou (food vessels), urns, jars, roof tile fragments, tube tiles, large clay bricks, as well as celadon dous, plates, and jars. In recent years, unearthed relics have included clay coin molds for wuzhu coins, iron coin molds for wuzhu coins, tiger tally tokens, gold and silver artifacts, as well as iron farming tools such as hoes and plows. Dongping Ancient City is a key cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shandong Province.
