The Tomb Cluster of the Liang Family

Located to the west of Lianglin Village, Laohu Town, Dongping County, adjacent to Canwei Mountain to the west, the Tomb Cluster of the Liang Family served as the burial ground for Liang family officials and their descendants during the Song Dynasty. It was established by Liang Weizhong, the Military Governor of Taiping Army in the third year of ZhiDao during the reign of Emperor Taizong of Song. The “Father-Son Top Scholars” Liang Hao and Liang Gu, as well as the Chancellor Liang Zimei, are all buried here. Most of the tombs were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, among which were some Song Dynasty mural tombs that yielded artifacts such as bronze camels, bronze pots, stone inkstones, and epitaphs. In the tomb area today, there are standing steles for Liang Weizhong and Liang Gu, as well as a spirit way stele for Liang Zimei and several large dragon-head stele caps. The spirit way stele for Liang Zimei stands 6.5 meters tall, 1.5 meters wide, and 0.6 meters thick, featuring a chi-dragon head and a base decorated with coins. It was commissioned to be written, inscribed, and titled by Bai Min (Grand Tutor and Vice Director of the Secretariat), Li Bangyan (Junior Tutor and Vice Director of the Secretariat), and Zhao Ye (Chancellor of the Ministry of Rites). The Tomb Cluster of the Liang Family is a key cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.
