Located among the northern hills of Lashan in Yingshan Town, Dongping County, and adjacent to the eastern shore of Dongping Lake, the Lashan Ancient Architectural Complex is a Taoist site. Its original construction date is unknown, but it was repaired during the Ming, Qing, and Republican periods. The site features ancient structures such as Fengyun Temple, Jade Emperor Hall, Bixia Yuanjun Hall, and Tiger Cave, which are distributed around a winding stone stairway path shaped like the character “ ”. The main buildings within Fengyun Temple—the Three Pure Ones Palace and Qiu Zu Pavilion—are connected structures, standing 7 meters tall with a width of three bays. They are built with a brick-and-stone structure, with the pavilion situated above, topped with a flat roof and crenellated edges. To the north of the temple stands a music platform constructed during the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty. Its pillars are inscribed with the couplet: “A melody so divine it halts the clouds, a song of peace performed by a thousand sages; a tune as pure as white snow, harmonizing five tones to delight the hearts of all people.” Lashan is also a uniquely scenic tourist destination, known for its peculiar cypresses, extraordinary vegetation, and serene landscapes. It has been celebrated by historical figures as the “Little Mount Tai” or “Little Dai Peak.” The Lashan architectural complex is a municipal-level cultural heritage site.

Yingshan Town is the birthplace of the uprising led by the legendary hero Chao Gai and his band of outlaws. Today, it lies at the western center of the remaining waters of the historic 800-li marsh, where many legendary stories from “Outlaws of the Marsh” took place.

Yingshan Town is located at the border between Shandong and Henan provinces, at the junction of Dongping, Yanggu, Taiqian, and Liangshan counties. It borders the Yellow River to the west and the eastern shore of Dongping Lake—the second largest freshwater lake in Shandong Province—to the east. The town comprises 44 administrative villages, covers an area of 104.5 square kilometers, has a population of 56,000, and includes 52,000 mu of arable land.
