Ruins of the Han Dynasty Mingtang

The ruins of the Hanmingtang are a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Hanmingtang is located in the western urban area of eastern Tai'an District, Tai'an City. Its overall architectural style reflects that of the Han Dynasty—classic and elegant, exquisitely unique, and grand in scale. It embodies both the legacy of the Han Dynasty and the classic charm of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Also known as Xieguo City, the Hanmingtang is associated with the famous Jiagu Alliance held at the foot of Mount Tai in 500 BC between Duke Ding of Lu and Duke Jing of Qi. Due to Confucius’ persuasive reasoning, Duke Jing of Qi was compelled to offer an apology to Duke Ding of Lu here. Later, when Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty made his eastern pilgrimage to Mount Tai, he established a Mingtang at this geomantically auspicious site along the essential route.

In ancient times, the Mingtang was believed to connect with celestial phenomena above and govern all things below. It was a sacred place where the Son of Heaven could observe and govern the realm while promulgating political and moral teachings, embodying the unity of heaven and humanity.

Taiqian Subdistrict: The Taiqian Subdistrict Office is located in the world-renowned main scenic area of Mount Tai. To the north lies Mount Tai, a UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage site; to the south is the bustling urban area.　

　It is the location of the Tai’an Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. The subdistrict is home to 25 colleges and vocational schools, including Shandong Agricultural University, Shandong University of Science and Technology, and Taishan Medical University, as well as over 10 provincial-level research institutions. Transportation is convenient, with only 3 km to Tai’an Railway Station and Bus Station; 80 km to Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport; and 300 km to Rizhao Port.
