Feng Yuxiang Memorial Hall on Mount Tai is a patriotic education base.

General Feng Yuxiang (1882–1948) was a renowned military strategist and statesman in modern Chinese history, an outstanding patriot and a respected fighter for democracy. He twice retreated to Mount Tai between 1932 and 1935, did many good deeds for the people of Tai’an, and left behind a wealth of valuable historical and cultural heritage.

To commemorate General Feng Yuxiang, in 1984, the Cultural Relics Bureau of Tai’an City (County) opened the “Feng Yuxiang Mount Tai Exhibition Room” at Pusi, where Feng had taken residence. In 1991, the Mount Tai Management Committee invested in the construction of the “Feng Yuxiang Memorial Hall on Mount Tai.” After its opening to the public, the memorial hall achieved positive social impact. To better protect and collect the precious cultural relics left by Mr. Feng Yuxiang, enrich and expand the exhibition content, and enhance its educational and promotional role, in 2005—after extensive consultations, especially with the opinions of Mr. Feng’s relatives—it was decided to relocate the site to Martyrs’ Shrine. An investment of over 600,000 yuan was made for environmental improvement, collection of exhibits, and redevelopment of the displays. The relocated “Feng Yuxiang Memorial Hall on Mount Tai” features an independent courtyard, elegant surroundings, and convenient transportation. It covers an area of 3,200 square meters, with a building area of 590 square meters and an exhibition area of 466 square meters.

The “Feng Yuxiang Memorial Hall on Mount Tai” adopts the themes of “Patriotism, Scholarship, and closeness to the People,” showcasing a wealth of precious historical materials from General Feng Yuxiang’s work, life, and interactions during his retreat on Mount Tai. The entire exhibition is divided into four halls: The first hall serves as an introductory space, giving a brief overview of General Feng’s extraordinary life, including his deeds during the late Qing Dynasty, the Northern Expedition, the Republican era, and his 1947 visit to the United States; the second hall focuses on scholarship and patriotism, displaying how he dedicated himself to reading and remembered national humiliation while on Mount Tai; the third hall highlights his closeness to the people, showcasing his love for the citizens and the contributions he made to improve their lives; the fourth hall is a restored relics room, exhibiting recreations of the desks, chairs, cabinets, beds, and other daily items used by Feng during his time on the mountain. The four halls display over 200 relics and more than 1,000 photographs related to Feng Yuxiang. On the west side of the memorial hall stand the Zhou Enlai Birthday Tribute Stele, a stone statue of Feng Yuxiang, a stone statue of Li Dequan, 48 stone tablets inscribed with Feng’s poems and paintings, and 4 slogan steles. Additionally, there are over ten stone carvings engraved by Feng Yuxiang, such as the inscription “Plum Blossom Ridge.” The relocated “Feng Yuxiang Memorial Hall on Mount Tai” not only facilitates visitor tours but also aids in the protection of precious historical materials. Integrated with the Martyrs’ Shrine, the two complement each other, further enriching the cultural significance of the site. It serves as a tourist destination and patriotic education base that combines learning, research, sightseeing, and leisure. The hall has been designated as a “Patriotic Education Base” by the Publicity Department of the Shandong Provincial Committee, and as a “Shandong Provincial Education Base for Caring for the Next Generation” by the Shandong Provincial Committee on the Care of the Next Generation and other organizations.
