Tomb of Fan Chi

The Tomb of Fan Chi is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Tomb of Fan Chi is located 20 meters southwest of Wutai Village, Wanglu Town. The exposed part of the tomb appears as an earthen mound, standing 0.8 meters above the ground with a circumference of 10 meters. Fan Chi, whose given name was Xu and courtesy name Zi Chi, was a native of the State of Lu (some say the State of Qi) during the late Spring and Autumn period. He was born in the fifth year of Duke Ding of Lu’s reign (505 BC, the year of Bing Shen in spring) in Renbeifan Village (now Nanzhang Township, Rencheng District, Jining). The area also preserves the tomb of Fan San Gong (Fan Chi’s great-great-great-grandfather), as well as a cluster of Han Dynasty tombs belonging to Fan Chi’s father, Fan Pi, and other members of the Fan clan—commonly referred to as the Fan Family Mounds. In the Han Dynasty, Fan Zong and Fan Yan, the 11th-generation descendants of Fan Chi, built the Fan Temple, Fan Mansion, and Fan Forest beside the tomb, erecting a stele in front of it. The complex was quite grand and has been the site of worship through the ages. In 1985, it was designated as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit.

Wanglu Town: Designated by the provincial government in 2000 as the only central town in Yutai County, Wanglu Town is located in the western part of the county seat. It borders the West Branch River to the east (near the east side of the county Party committee), the Hui River to the west (where Wanglu Town is situated), the South Ring Road to the south, and the West Lake Dike to the north. It is also the location of the county Party committee and county government offices. The town covers a total area of 39.97 square kilometers, governs 19 administrative villages and 71 natural villages, with a total population of 33,491 and cultivated land area of 37,420 mu. The town currently has 29 administrative officials, including 9 at or above the deputy section level, 16 institutional officials, and 63 institutional workers.
