Changlizhai Filial Piety Folk Culture Village

Changlizhai Village is under the jurisdiction of Zhanghuang Town, Yutai County, with a total population of 2,016 and over 400 households. The village’s main economic activities include farming, animal husbandry, and labor export, supplemented by catering, commerce, and transportation. It is renowned as a hometown of filial piety culture.

The villagers are known for their simple and honest customs, placing filial piety above all else. At the entrance of the village stands the DeXing Bridge (also known as the Twenty-Four Filial Exemplars Bridge), adorned with stone carvings depicting the Twenty-Four Paragons of Filial Piety, where many travelers pause to admire them. To the west of the village lies an ancient residential complex known as the Filial Piety Culture Courtyard. In 2004, it was extensively renovated with substantial investment to become a nationally recognized education base for respecting the elderly. It houses a research and creative hall, a filial piety culture exhibition hall, a red culture exhibition hall, and a rural library. There is a dedicated filial piety evaluation committee, and the selection of Filial Families and Filial Stars has become a regular event. The village has established a Filial Mutual Aid Education Foundation and a Filial Mutual Aid Development Foundation, truly ensuring that children have access to education and the elderly are well cared for. The village has been designated by various provincial units as a base for filial piety culture creation, moral education, and filial piety education. It has been awarded titles such as Filial Piety Folk Culture Village, Model Village for Respecting the Elderly, Hundred Filial Acts Village, and Demonstration Village by governments at all levels. Due to the village’s exemplary influence, local filial culture has flourished. The Yutai County Party Committee and government have capitalized on this momentum and successfully hosted the first China Filial Piety Culture Festival in 2008. The second China Filial Piety Culture Festival is currently being prepared.

Changlizhai Village also possesses undeveloped red tourism resources. During the revolutionary war years, many loyal and heroic villagers from the village, driven by the aspiration to save the nation, fought across the country, dedicating their youth without ever betraying their cause. In the 1930s, Zhao Fangzhou, Zhao Huafan, Zhao Zisheng, Zhao Hebi, and others from the village actively participated in anti-Japanese salvation activities, becoming key figures among the early members of the Communist Party in Yutai. In 1937, Zhao Zisheng and others formed an anti-Japanese militia group in the village. A large number of young and middle-aged villagers enthusiastically joined the revolutionary tide, leading to the vigorous rise of the anti-Japanese salvation movement throughout the county. The village established an anti-Japanese primary school to promote revolutionary ideals and trained and sent a large number of outstanding talents for the revolution and construction. They also infiltrated enemy and puppet organizations and successfully persuaded defections to strengthen revolutionary forces. Their legendary escort of - and Chen Yi, among other national leaders, through enemy and puppet-controlled areas is still fondly recounted by the locals. After the founding of New China, the village’s revolutionary veterans made immortal contributions to national construction in their respective leadership positions. The village now has a Red Revolutionary Exhibition Hall and plans to further explore and develop it into a red tourism and patriotic education base.

Changlizhai Village is the first tourist attraction established in our county.

Zhanghuang Town: Located in the northern part of Yutai County, Shandong Province, Zhanghuang Town sits at the junction of Yutai, Weishan, and the central district of Jining City. It borders Weishan Lake to the east and is the hometown of Min Ziqian, one of Confucius’ seventy-two disciples. The town covers a total area of 96 square kilometers, with 75,000 mu of arable land, and administers 54 administrative villages, with a population of over 60,000.

Zhanghuang Industrial Park is located within Zhanghuang Town and is one of the specialized chemical industrial parks approved by the Jining Municipal Government.
