Old City Haizi Ruins

The Old City Haizi Ruins is a national AA-level tourist attraction and a cultural tourism site.

The Fishing Park at Old City Haizi Scenic Area in Yutai County is located around Jiulicheng Village, Wangmiao Town, Yutai County. It stretches 2,200 meters from east to west and 1,400 meters from north to south, with water covering an area of up to 2.8 million square meters. The old city was originally called Huangtai Market, named for never being submerged by the yellow floodwaters. In the fourth year of the Yuanhe era of the Tang Dynasty (809 AD), the county seat was first moved here. The area boasts many historical sites and notable figures. Famous scenic spots include “Dragon Terrace Flying Rain,” “Ancient Pagoda Reaching the Clouds,” “Golden Sand Morning Walk,” “Dragon Terrace Flying Rain,” “Lang Bridge Moonlit Night,” “Reed Sea Blue Mist,” and “Lotus River Sails Returning.” Historical figures include Min Ziqian, the filial son among Confucius’s seventy-two disciples, as well as Fan Zizhi and Mi Zixian. Modern personalities include playwright Dong Xiaowu and calligrapher Qu Wanli. In July of the 21st year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1756 AD), the Yellow River breached its banks at Sunjiaji in Tongshan County. On September 13, floodwaters inundated the city, collapsing all official buildings and civilian houses, reducing the city site to a lake. In 1985, it was designated as a municipal-level key cultural relics protection unit. In November 2009, it was named an agricultural tourism demonstration site by the provincial tourism bureau, and in 2010, it was rated as an AA-level tourist scenic area and a model site for the Tourism to the Countryside Project.

Wangmiao Town: Located nine kilometers southwest of Yutai County, Wangmiao Town covers a total area of 95.8 square kilometers, with a population of 62,000. It governs 62 administrative villages, 154 natural villages, 72,000 mu of arable land, and 12,000 mu of water surface. The town enjoys convenient water and land transportation, with the provincial-level Zao-Cao Highway running through it. The under-construction Jixu Expressway and the Cross-Lake Expressway both pass through Wangmiao. The Baima River and Xizhi River encircle the town from east to west, while the Dongyu River, Sulu Border River, and Xingfu River flow through the entire area, with the Hui River running from north to south.
