Liying Subdistrict is located in the northern suburbs of Jining and ranks sixth among China’s top ten nursery towns. The nursery area in Liying Subdistrict covers 65,000 mu, of which 48,000 mu are under standardized cultivation. The main varieties planted include Jining sycamore, fast-growing sycamore, shaped sycamore, ash, scholar tree, elm, purple-leaf plum, cherry blossom, golden locust, southern catalpa, and dozens of other species. Leveraging its strengths in nursery production, the area has developed over 300 nursery bases, landscaping companies, and specialized cooperatives, with an annual output value of 1.7 billion yuan. Its products are sold to 28 provinces (regions and municipalities), making it the largest production and sales hub for deciduous trees in northern China.

Since 2000, Liying Subdistrict has successively implemented four phases of comprehensive agricultural development, introducing more than 100 high-quality varieties such as colored-leaf plants and flowering shrubs. Eighty percent of the nursery stock has achieved standardized cultivation, and the “Qiaohewang” trademark has been successfully registered, earning the title of “Shandong Provincial Famous Brand Agricultural Product.” The rapid development of the nursery industry has significantly improved Liying’s ecological environment and turned it into a scenic highlight in northern Jining. The transition from “planting” to “tourism” has been put on the right track. In 2008, the district tourism bureau guided the standardization construction of the Liying Nursery Base, advising growers on the rational arrangement of plant species. By utilizing the color variations of flowers, leaves, fruits, and bark, the base achieves effects of “spring blossoms, summer greens, autumn colors, and winter warmth.” No matter the season, it offers visual enjoyment. The color palette of the nursery base has shifted from a single green to a vibrant diversity, forming a richly landscaped greenbelt with multiple tree species and colors. It successfully passed inspection and was designated as a provincial-level agricultural tourism demonstration site.
