The Dai Zhuang Catholic Church in Jining is a provincial-level cultural heritage site in Shandong Province.

The Dai Zhuang Church in Jining is located in Liying Town, Rencheng District. As a provincial-level cultural heritage site, it was originally a villa of Dai Jian, a famous painter from Jining during the late Ming and early Qing periods. Later, it was sold to Qing official Li Shu and converted into a private garden. The current Dai Zhuang Garden consists of the Jin Garden and the church buildings, representing an exceptionally intact and unique ensemble of religious architecture in China. It includes the Fathers’ Cemetery, the main church, the monastery, the priests’ office building, the nuns’ building, and the bell tower. Among these, the Dai Zhuang Church was established in 1883 (the ninth year of the Guangxu reign) by German Catholic priest Father Joseph Freinademetz and served as a key missionary center in southwestern Shandong, exerting significant influence both domestically and internationally. Strolling through the entire garden offers ever-changing scenic views—blending the delicate charm of southern Chinese gardens with the solemn dignity of northern ones. Set against the backdrop of surrounding Western-style buildings, it forms a uniquely distinctive fusion of northern and southern styles, as well as Chinese and Western elements.
