Siguodui Site

The Siguodui Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Siguodui Site is located east of Siaxiahao Village, Tangkou Subdistrict Office, Rencheng District, Jining City, adjacent to the village. It was designated as one of the first batch of cultural heritage protection units in Shandong Province in 1977. The existing site rises about 4 meters above the ground surface and is a typical gu-dui (mound) site, with cultural deposits approximately 5 meters thick. The site is roughly circular, with a diameter of about 100 meters, and belongs to the Longshan Culture stratum. Originally, there was a Buddhist temple from the Tang Dynasty on the site, named “Dajue Chan Temple.” After being renovated through successive dynasties, it became a grand-scale temple but was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution’s campaign against the Four Olds. It was later repurposed as a school, and after the school relocated, it served as the office for the village committee before being abandoned. To the south of the site stands an ancient locust tree.

Judging from the exposed parts of the site, the lowest layer consists of Longshan Culture remains, overlain by Yueshi Culture and Shang-Zhou Culture remains. There are several Han Dynasty brick-and-stone tombs that cut through the cultural layers. Artifacts found include polished black pottery shards, tripod leg ornaments with ghost-faced designs, cord-marked li tripods, basins, jars, and other fragments.

Tangkou Subdistrict: Tangkou Subdistrict is located in the southwest of Jining City, approximately 14.5 kilometers from the city center. It covers an area of 126 square kilometers, governs 79 administrative villages, and had a population of 87,956 in 2005. National Highway 105, Provincial Highway 251, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal run through the area. Local rivers include the Zhaowang River, Zhu-Zhao Canal, Longgong River, and Jiliang Canal. To the east of Siaxiahao Village lies Siguodui (formerly known as Xiangzangdui), and to the west of Liujie Village lies the Liulin Site—both are key cultural heritage protection units at the provincial and municipal levels, respectively.
