Shagou Site

The Shagou Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

Shagou Site

Located about 300 meters northeast of Shagou Town, Xuecheng District, the site is distributed on flat land about 2 meters above the riverbed on both sides of the river. The Shagou River runs from east to west through the middle of the site, dividing it into northern and southern sections. The southern bank of the site has been covered by the village, while parts of the northern bank are overlaid with residential houses. The entire site stretches approximately 450 meters from east to west and 400 meters from north to south, covering a total area of about 180,000 square meters. In 1992, it was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit by the provincial government.

Shagou Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Xuecheng District, Zaozhuang City. During the Ming Dynasty, it housed a city with a patrol inspection office and a garrison camp; in the Qing Dynasty, it had a regional military command, and later became a town. In 1958, it was part of Lincheng Commune in Tengxian County; in 1961, it became Shagou Commune; in 1984, it was reorganized as a town. It is located 7.5 kilometers from the district government. Covering an area of 25.8 square kilometers with a population of 26,000, it is traversed by the Beijing-Shanghai Railway and National Highway 104.
