Xigong Mountain Scenic Area

Xigong Mountain Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Xigong Mountain Scenic Area is located in Xiazhuang Township, Xuecheng District, Zaozhuang City. Originally named Qingqiu Mountain and also known as Flying Phoenix Mountain, it stands at an elevation of 233.2 meters. It is the only cultural tourism destination in China that features the worship of the ancestor of chariots.

Xi Zhong, a descendant of the Yellow Emperor, is said to have invented the chariot and was appointed the Minister of Chariots and Clothing during the reign of Yu the Great. During the Han Dynasty, the mountain was renamed Xigong Mountain in honor of the great inventor of the chariot, Xi Zhong. Xigong Mountain extends from the Tai-Yi Mountain Range, with continuous peaks stretching hundreds of miles, making it the foremost of the mountains in southern Shandong. The mountain is dotted with temples, Taoist shrines, monasteries, and nunneries, where the sounds of morning bells, evening drums, Buddhist chants, and sutra recitals can be heard over ten miles away. Visitors here feel as if they have entered a fairyland, hence Xigong Mountain is known as a blessed mountain destination. To the southwest of the mountain lies the ancient site of Xiyi, while on the Xiuxiu Mountain to the west is the tomb of Xi Zhong, beside which is the tomb of Ran Qiu. Deep within Xigong Mountain lies the site where Xi Zhong is said to have created the chariot.

Difang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Pingyi County. It is a fruit processing base in Shandong Province. In 1949, it was classified as Tianbao Mountain District (Pingyi District 7), changed to Difang District in 1955, reorganized as a township in 1958, turned into Tianbao Commune in 1959, reinstated as a district in 1961, changed back to Difang Commune in 1977, and finally restructured into Difang Town in 1985 through district and township consolidation. Located in the southeastern part of the county, it is 32 kilometers from the county seat. The town covers an area of 65.3 square kilometers, with 48,000 mu of arable land and a population of 27,000.
