Xianghu Scenic Area

Xianghu is located in the western suburbs of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, and is a picturesque tourist destination. Formed by the convergence of waters from the South River, North River, East River, West River, and Qing Shan Lake, Xianghu’s layout resembles the shape of an elephant, hence its name. Within Xianghu lies the site of Wanshou Palace, situated on a small island known as “Prayer Island,” which covers a total area of about 60 acres. The architectural complex on the island, spanning approximately 4,600 square meters, is the Zhengyi sect Taoist sanctuary — Nanchang Wanshou Palace. It stands out like a brilliant jewel embedded in the Xianghu Scenic Area and is also referred to as the “sacred site within the scenery.”

The garden architecture within Xianghu Scenic Area in Nanchang includes various individual structures such as pavilions, corridors, terraces, towers, platforms, halls, and pagodas. These greatly enrich the architectural diversity of the scenic area and enhance its overall visual appeal and aesthetic beauty.

Known for its reputation as “a city of lotus on one side, willows on four, half city and half lake,” Xianghu is formed by the waters of the South River, North River, East River, West River, and Qing Shan Lake. The lake shimmers with ripples, willows line the embankments, and it harmonizes beautifully with lofty towers, secluded woods, ancient city walls, and lotus ponds. Its layout resembles the shape of an elephant, hence its name. Within Xianghu lies the site of Wanshou Palace, situated on a small island known as “Prayer Island.” This island is home to the Zhengyi sect Taoist sanctuary — Nanchang Wanshou Palace, a radiant jewel set within the Xianghu Scenic Area and honored as the “sacred site within the scenery.”
