The Shangrao Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Shangrao Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is located on Golden Hill on the southern bank of the Xin River in Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, east of Xinzhou Academy. The hill is covered with evergreen pines and cypresses, offering a serene and pleasant environment. It consists of the Shangrao Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument, the Tomb of Huang Dao, and the Heroes' Wall. Built in 1952 to commemorate the heroic sons and daughters of northeastern Jiangxi who gave their lives in the Second Revolutionary Civil War, the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the Liberation War, it was once listed by the provincial government as a key protected martyrs' memorial site. During the Second Revolutionary Civil War, leaders such as Fang Zhimin and Huang Dao established the revolutionary bases of Northeastern Jiangxi, Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi, and Fujian-Zhejiang-Anhui-Jiangxi Soviet areas under extremely harsh conditions. They formed the 10th Red Army and led the people of the Soviet areas in courageous struggles against the reactionary Kuomintang. In this struggle, the people of the Soviet areas fought relentlessly until the liberation of the entire nation, with many outstanding individuals sacrificing their precious lives for the liberation of the Chinese people.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, in order to ensure that future generations would forever remember the revolutionary martyrs, the Party and government built the "Shangrao Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument" in 1952 on the site of the Yile Hall at Xinzhou Academy. The body and base of the monument are entirely made of reinforced concrete, standing approximately 25 meters tall with a base area of 49 square meters. The base is inscribed with calligraphy from national leaders including Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, and Zhu De.

To the northwest of the monument, there is also a small pavilion with overhanging eaves, housing the Tomb of Martyr Huang Dao. Huang Dao (1900–1939), originally named Huang Duanzhang, was from Hengfeng, Jiangxi. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1932 and was one of the earliest intellectuals in Jiangxi to spread Marxism, as well as one of the founders and leaders of the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base. In May 1935, he was killed in Shuikou, Yanshan. Initially buried in Chongan, Fujian, his remains were moved to Shangrao in 1950 and laid to rest along the banks of the Xin River where he had once engaged in peasant movement activities. The martyr’s tomb was renovated in 1955. It features a hemispherical cement arch with the gilded inscription “Tomb of Martyr Huang Dao” on the front, giving it a solemn and dignified appearance.

In 1994, the former Shangrao Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government built the Heroes' Wall on the stairway wall west of the monument, carving a group of heroic figures. It is carved from large pieces of red stone, presenting a majestic presence with vividly lifelike facial expressions.
