The former site of Maojiuling Prison is located in Maojiuling Village, Xinzhou District. Originally a "Ge Xian" temple, it was converted into a secret prison for political prisoners by the Political Department Special Commissioner's Office of the Third War Zone's intelligence agency in the summer of 1939. The four cells inside held the most resolute revolutionaries in the struggle against the enemy, known as the "prison within a prison." The nationally renowned Maojiuling Uprising took place here.
