Sheshantou Site

The Sheshantou Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Era: Neolithic Age to Zhou Dynasty

The Sheshantou Site is located in Wudu, Guangfeng County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province. The Sheshantou cultural site dates back over 5,000 years and is a typical platform mound site, covering an area of approximately 11,000 square meters with a cultural deposit layer 3.3 meters thick, divided into seven strata. Since 1983, with approval from the National Cultural Heritage Administration, it has been excavated three times, yielding more than 2,000 cultural relics. Among them, two complete pottery vessels feature an upright spout, hollow bulbous feet, and raised spiral patterns. The spouts gradually evolve from flat and wide to upward-pinched bird-beak shapes. These are currently the largest and best-preserved pottery vessels unearthed in China, as well as the oldest — representing primitive porcelain from the transitional period from pottery to porcelain. In May 2013, it was designated and announced by the State Council as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
