Huanqing Garden

Huanqing Garden is located in Tanshan Village, Tanshan Town. Built in the 33rd year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1768), it has a history of over 240 years. It was originally established by the Liu family ancestors of Miaoxia to promote education. After the liberation, the government once set up the Tanshan Central Primary School here, which operated for many years before relocating.

Huanqing Garden covers an area of approximately eight acres. The garden originally included rockeries and peculiar stones, bamboo groves and gardens, several rows of buildings, two ponds, three bridges, and one pavilion. Living water was channeled into the ponds. Among them, the stone pond was particularly exquisite in craftsmanship—the pond was surrounded by bluestone slabs, topped with a stone railing, and the bottom was entirely paved with bluestone. A pavilion was built in the pond, with its foundation formed from an arched bridge made of bluestone, and wooden planks used to connect the bridge with the north and south buildings. The upper part of the pavilion was a wooden structure, with carved wood panels embedded in the walls. The roof was designed as a watchtower, with bells hanging from each of its four corners. The entire garden is exquisitely elegant and poetic, embodying the characteristics of Jiangnan gardens from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Currently, Huanqing Garden retains a two-story building constructed in the 1990s, several single-story houses, and an ancient Qing Dynasty house. The east wing room is still intact, the stone pond remains in good condition, but the pavilion in the pond is gradually becoming dilapidated. The entire garden is largely abandoned and urgently requires maintenance, development, and utilization. It has potential for development into leisure, resort, farmstead, or garden tourism destinations.

Tanshan Village: Tanshan Village is located southeast of Tanshan Town, bordering Tianbao Township to the east, Fuxi and Dianshang villages to the west, Duixia Village and Tianbao Township to the south, and adjacent to Dianshang Village to the north. The village office is situated in the Tanshan Town area at an elevation of 105 meters, approximately 0.5 li from the town government office. The village’s terrain is higher in the east and lower in the west, nestled against mountains and close to water, offering beautiful scenery.
