Pingxi Ancient Village

Pingxi Ancient Village is located to the southwest of Tianbao Township. It has been designated as a Traditional Chinese Village by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China. Established before the Yuan Dynasty, Pingxi Village reflects the ancient concept of “settling near mountains for support,” with its orientation facing south and backing against the primeval forest in the southwest that serves as a natural windbreak. The ancient village covers an area of 1,845 mu, featuring a network of pathways that spread throughout the settlement. Centered around the Yunya Weng Ancestral Hall in the heart of the village, these paths extend inward. The village has preserved its original living conditions intact, with well-maintained traditional architecture and cultural heritage. Notable sites include the Zuoshan Cultural Ruins, two ancient wells—one of which formed naturally and is uniquely shaped like a boot, hence called the “Boot Well.” Behind the village, hundreds of acres of lush forested hills are dotted with towering, leafy trees, predominantly camphor, maple, and zhu trees. In front of the village, a murmuring stream meanders gently alongside the settlement.
