Ruins of the Ancient Kangle City

Located in Gaojia Village, about 500 meters from Tangpu Town, it is said to be the site of the ancient county seat of Kangle from the Jin Dynasty, which was the fief of Xie Lingyun. The ruins cover an area of approximately 150 acres and are roughly circular in shape, surrounded by earthen city walls about 10 meters high. The ancient city originally had four gate towers—east, west, south, and north—but now only the west gate remains, slightly damaged, overgrown with moss and trees. The gate is 4.5 meters high, 3 meters wide, and 3.5 meters thick (depth), built with blue bricks and stands as solid as a small hill. The east, south, and north gates were demolished during the early Cultural Revolution in the campaign to “Smash the Four Olds.”

In November 1981, during a pilot survey of cultural relics in the Yichun region, Jin Dynasty tomb bricks with molded reliefs depicting an imperial procession and the inscription “Taishou” (Prefect) were discovered at the site. In June 1982, during another relics survey, late Neolithic, Han, Shang, and Zhou dynasty stone tools and pottery shards were found near the ruins. In 1983, the ancient city ruins were listed among the first batch of key cultural heritage protection units in Yifeng County.
