Longyuan Kou
Longyuan Kou is located in the southern part of Yongxin County, 17 kilometers from the county town. On June 23, 1928, Mao Zedong and Zhu De led the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and local border forces to engage in fierce battle against two divisions of the Jiangxi enemy forces—Yang Chisheng and Yang Ruxuan, whose numbers were several times greater than our own—at the New and Old Qixi Ridges and Baikou area of Longyuan Kou. They defeated the two Yangs, shattered the joint suppression campaign by enemy forces from both Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, recaptured Yongxin County for the third time, and ushered the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base Area into its most prosperous period. The victory at Longyuan Kou was the largest military triumph achieved by our forces during the Jinggangshan struggle, laying a solid foundation for the peak development of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base Area and holding extremely significant importance in its construction. The back design of the second series of 3-yuan RMB notes issued in 1953 features the Longyuan Kou Bridge. Longyuan Kou now features attractions such as the Longyuan Kou Victory Bridge, the Longyuan Kou Victory Monument (with an inscription personally penned by Zhu De), Wangyue Pavilion (the original singing site of the song “Ten Farewells to the Red Army”), the former site of the Qiuxi Township Party Branch (the first rural Party branch personally established by Mao Zedong during the Jinggangshan struggle), the former residence of Comrade Mao Zedong, the former site of the Qiuxi Detachment, the ancient street of Longyuan Kou Village, relics of Red Army battles, Longyuan Kou Lake, Ayuta Pagoda, and the Suiyuan Mountain Nature Reserve.
