Longyuan Kou Bridge

Longyuan Kou is located in the southern part of Yongxin, about 20 kilometers from the county town, adjacent to the former site of the Sanwan Reorganization and the hometown of He Zizhen. On June 23, 1928, Mao Zedong led the Fourth Red Army to repel three regiments of the Jiangxi enemy forces that were attacking the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base to the vicinity of Longyuan Kou Bridge, annihilating one regiment. “Without expending even a third of the Red Army’s strength, we defeated the two ‘sheep’ of Jiangxi (referring to Yang Chisheng and Yang Ruxuan).” This victory, achieved by the few against the many, became known as the “Great Victory at Longyuan Kou.” The front side of the three-yuan banknote issued by the People’s Bank of China in the 1950s features an image of the single-arch bridge at Longyuan Kou. Nearby, there is also a monument commemorating the victory at Longyuan Kou, inscribed with calligraphy personally written by [Mao Zedong].
