Haitianchun Teahouse

Former Residence of He Zizhen — Haitianchun Teahouse is located on Maota Lane, Xingfu Street, Hechuan Town, Yongxin County. It was originally built in the late Qing Dynasty. The two-story brick-and-wood structure features a single-entry layout with two halls, four pillars, and three bays, covering a site area of 274 square meters and a total floor area of 541 square meters. The residence was damaged in the early 1980s. In recent years, Vice Governor Hong Lihé of Jiangxi Province has visited Yongxin multiple times to inspect work and personally went to the original site of Haitianchun Teahouse. He instructed that, in order to promote patriotism and revolutionary tradition education, Haitianchun Teahouse should be rebuilt. Subsequently, a special reconstruction fund of 1.5 million yuan was allocated by higher authorities. The county cultural relics department followed the principles of restoring the original site, original appearance, original style, and original structure, and in 2010, the teahouse was restored and the historical site was refurbished with period furnishings, bringing back the building’s former glory. In July 2012, the residence was designated as a Yongxin County Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

In the early 1920s, He Zizhen’s parents moved the whole family to the county town and opened this teahouse, which mainly sold tea and sundries, along with offering lodging. Thanks to its neat premises and convenient location, the place was bustling with visitors and business was fairly good. Later, He Zizhen, along with her elder brother He Minxue, younger sister He Yi, and their parents, all embarked on the path of revolution from here. During the Great Revolution, this place became a secret contact point for the Communists in Yongxin County.

He Zizhen, female, also known as He Guiyuan, was born in 1904 in Huangzhuling Village, Yongxin County, Jiangxi Province. She graduated from Yongxin Women’s Vocational School in 1925, joined the Communist Youth League of China in 1926, and became a member of the Communist Party of China in the same year.

After the failure of the Great Revolution, under the leadership of the Yongxin Party organization, He Zizhen contacted the peasant forces of Yuan Wencai in Ninggang and Wang Zuo on Jinggangshan, joining with peasant armies from Ninggang, Suichuan, Anfu, Lianhua, and Yongxin counties to attack Yongxin and rescue arrested Communist Party members and revolutionary masses.
