Fengyue Pass

Fengyue Pass is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Fengfeng Fengyue Pass is located to the west of Heilongdong Village, Linshui Town, Fengfeng Mining District, Handan City, Hebei Province, on the northern side of Shenmu Mountain, facing south. It borders the Fuyang River to the north, Shenmu Mountain to the south, Heilongdong Village to the east, and the Yuefeng Canal Command Post to the west. According to inscriptions, it was originally built during the Tang Dynasty and was renovated and expanded in the 32nd year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1640). Fengyue Pass, also known as Fuku Temple, sits above the famous Heilongdong, the source of the Fuyang River, and is therefore also called Black Dragon Temple. Built atop a stone arch, it covers an area of about 1,500 square meters, with a construction area of 540.68 square meters. The temple gets its name from being situated above a natural karst cave (traditionally called Heilongdong). As early as the Northern Dynasties, Li Daoyuan's "Commentary on the Water Classic" recorded: “During the Cao Wei period, there were stone inscriptions here, but they can no longer be verified.” The existing temple structures were built during the Tang Dynasty and took shape in the Ming Dynasty. The original buildings included Fengyue Pass, Black Dragon Temple, Kunshan Mingyue Pavilion, and the Official Courtyard. The current structures were reconstructed in 1987.

Within the courtyard of Fengyue Pass, there are also smaller-scale temples dedicated to Lüzu (the Daoist Patriarch Lü Dongbin), Guan Yu, and the Supreme Old Lord (Laozi). The stone arch foundation of Fengyue Pass is built with quarried stone. Given that the arch platform served as a mountain pass, the original form of the parapet wall is not documented in any texts. During the renovation from 1986 to 1987, it was designed in the style of a city wall, and the east and west gates as well as the stone steps were also restored.

On October 20, 2008, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.
