Hidden Mining Pits in Xinyi District – An Unexpected Taipei Travel Experience

Known as “Dexing Coal Mine” and “Hexing Coal Pit” during the Japanese colonial period, these sites have been transformed into new distinctive attractions in Xinyi District through comprehensive environmental improvements by the Taipei City Government in recent years. Visiting here is like stepping into the famous Jinguashi area—why not take some time for a unique mining pit experience?

The “Dexing Coal Mine Pit” is located at the end of Lane 100, Alley 600, Wuhsing Street, Xinyi District, Taipei City. The revitalization project made extensive use of natural materials, improving the safety of the creek while also focusing on ecological conservation and energy saving. It integrates the old mining area with the “Tiaomi Ancient Trail” to create an ideal leisure and recreational destination. The “Hexing Coal Pit” is situated beside the Old Pi Creek, accessible along Songren Road to Lane 150, Section 5, Xinyi Road, entering from the alley next to the Joint Logistics School Technical Training Center. Alongside the environmental restoration of the Old Pi Creek, it also incorporates the existing surroundings of the old Hexing Coal Pit mining area, combining the local natural landscape and mining culture to become a unique attraction.
