China Cizhou Kiln History Museum

The China Cizhou Kiln History Museum is situated on Fuyang West Road, Fengfeng Mining District, Handan City, with a land area of 5,350 square meters and a total construction area of 9,700 square meters. The museum consists of three floors above ground and one underground, comprising the main building and auxiliary buildings, an exhibition center, a sales and exhibition center, an academic research center, a conference and exchange center, a visitor reception center, and an office center. The first and second floors are modern premium ceramic sales exhibition areas, each spanning 2,160 square meters. The third floor is the Cizhou Kiln collection display area, divided into sections for the Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, and the Republic of China period. It primarily showcases Cizhou Kiln cultural relics and images from the Song Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty, and utilizes sound, light, and electricity technologies to introduce the origin, development, and unique production techniques of Cizhou Kiln craftsmanship.

In July 2011, an expert group composed of the Museum Management Office of the Hebei Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau and the Museum Management Office of the Handan Municipal Cultural Relics Bureau conducted a registration inspection of the China Cizhou Kiln History Museum. The completion of this registration inspection provided policy and regulatory assurance for the museum’s official opening and for securing special funds for free admission from higher authorities.

The China Cizhou Kiln History Museum does not charge an entrance fee and is not aimed at generating economic profit. Instead, it is dedicated to collecting and researching cultural relics, as well as promoting Cizhou Kiln culture. It will serve as a window for people to learn about the fine traditional culture of Fengfeng or the border region where four provinces meet in southern Hebei, becoming a regional cultural hall for learning, research, appreciation, and leisure tourism. It will also function as a comprehensive base for visiting, shopping, craft demonstrations, and academic exchanges related to Cizhou Kiln culture. The museum aims to revive the prosperous scene of the ancient “Porcelain Capital” Pengcheng Town, which once saw “a fortune coming in daily,” and establish itself as a true ceramic capital of northern China. This will lay a solid foundation for the application of Cizhou Kiln ruins for UNESCO World Heritage status.
