Mount Daiyun is a national nature reserve.

Fujian Mount Daiyun National Nature Reserve is situated in the central peak section of the Mount Daiyun Mountain Range—one of Fujian’s two major mountain ranges—within Dehua County. Its main peak reaches an altitude of 1,856 meters, earning it the title of the “Roof Ridge of Central Fujian.” The reserve lies within Dehua County in Quanzhou City and is designated as a forest ecology and wildlife nature reserve. It spans a total area of 13,472.4 hectares, including a core zone of 5,514.1 hectares, a buffer zone of 3,515.4 hectares, and an experimental zone of 4,442.9 hectares. The reserve encompasses parts of six townships and 22 administrative villages including Chishui, Leifeng, Nanting, Guiyang, Shangyong, and Daming, stretching from Panlong in the east to Huangshan in the west, Chenxi in the north, and Dongli in the south. Its geographical coordinates range from 118°05′22″ to 118°20′15″ east longitude and 25°38′07″ to 25°43′40″ north latitude.

Established in 1985, Mount Daiyun Nature Reserve was among the first batch of nature reserves set up in Fujian Province. It was upgraded to a national nature reserve in 2005. The reserve boasts a forest coverage rate of 93.4%, and its primary conservation focus is on the typical mountain forest ecosystem of China’s southeastern coastal region. It places special emphasis on protecting the southernmost, largest, and best-preserved Masson pine forests along China’s southeast coast; important sites for insect and plant type specimens; resources of orchid species; as well as the area’s rich biodiversity and endangered flora and fauna.

Mount Daiyun Reserve serves as a vital biodiversity gene pool, water conservation area, ecological safety barrier, and biological safety island for rare wildlife in Fujian Province. It plays a significant role in biodiversity protection, ecological security, water conservation, climate regulation, air purification, as well as scientific research and educational activities in central Fujian.
