A Mini Flower-Viewing Trip in Changhua: Jacaranda and Tung Blossoms in Full Bloom

This romantic spring has seen Changhua County burst into bloom. Following the news-worthy attractions of the yellow tabebuia and cotton tree avenues, various other ornamental roadside trees across Changhua—such as azaleas, Bauhinia variegata, and Bauhinia purpurea—are now putting on a dazzling display. Along the Guan Shan 139 County Mountain Loop Road and the intersection with Provincial Highway 74, the eastern outer ring road of Changhua, the purple-flowering jacaranda and white tung blossoms are vying for attention. Next to the bustling bike path entrance, the jacaranda’s azure blooms sway in the sky like wind chimes dangling from the treetops, composing a symphony of spring.

In April, apart from the pristine white tung blossoms, another sight worth pausing for on Guan Shan is the romantic purple “jacaranda.” Its flowering season runs from April to May. Though it hasn’t yet reached peak bloom—with not all the tree crowns fully covered—the budding flower clusters hanging densely from the branches give the entire jacaranda tree a plump, lush appearance. The subtle purple radiates a gentle magic, filling the air with mystery and romance.

Additionally, with the arrival of the “2015 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival,” visitors can also head to Guan Shan in Changhua County to admire the tung blossoms and enjoy this annual floral extravaganza. Each year, when looking out over the Changhua Plain from Guan Shan, one can see a sea of snow-white flowers—these are the tung blossoms, known as the “May Snow,” which offer visitors to Changhua the natural beauty of spring. April and May mark the peak season for tung blossoms, and the whole of Taiwan is graced with the romantic spectacle of “tung blossom snow,” sparking widespread enthusiasm for blossom viewing.
