Attraction Introduction

Jiuxian Mountain is located in Dehua, a famous porcelain capital in Fujian. The mountain is covered with volcanic rocks, with most of the rock surfaces exposed, creating a spectacular sight. Vast forests of Huangshan pines grow on the mountain, displaying a myriad of shapes, among which the spiral pine and lotus pedestal pine are particularly remarkable. Wild yew trees are also commonly found on the mountain, growing lush and majestic, with photos of them published in various art and nature magazines both in China and abroad. The surrounding mountain ridges and valleys are filled with pristine secondary forests that block out the sunlight.

Jiuxian Mountain boasts three wonders: “sunrise, sea of clouds, and rime ice.” It takes quite a bit of luck to witness even one of these. The mountain offers ever-changing weather phenomena, including Buddha’s halo, sea of clouds, and rime ice. The scenery varies beautifully with the seasons: in spring, there are rhododendron seas; in summer, green pines and bamboos thrive; in autumn, red leaves carpet the paths; and in winter, rime ice hangs like jade. The mountaintop is often shrouded in mist, offering very fresh air and making it an excellent summer retreat. If you’re hiking up in the afternoon, it’s recommended to bring a long-sleeved shirt to avoid catching a cold. Along the way, you’ll see unique villa landscapes, feel the natural climate difference between the mountain foot and the summit, climb the adventurous sky ladder, and encounter serene scenes such as winding paths leading to secluded spots and clear springs flowing over rocks.

There are many guesthouses and hotels within the scenic area, but it’s best to book in advance during peak seasons. If you want to watch the sunrise or sunset, you can choose to stay in an open tent, but be aware that nights in the mountains can be quite cold, so it’s advisable to bring some warm gear.

Transportation

Take a bus from Quanzhou Bus Station to Dehua, with fares ranging from 30–40 yuan. The journey takes about 1 hour via the highway to reach downtown Dehua. From there, hire a car to Jiuxian Mountain, with prices around 300 yuan per car (up to 4 passengers). Alternatively, take the “Dehua–Chishui” bus from downtown Dehua and get off at the Jiuxian Mountain Tunnel, with a fare of about 10 yuan. The tunnel is still 11 kilometers away from the Jiuxian Mountain Scenic Area, with no public transport available for that stretch — hiking is required. Therefore, it’s best to hire a car from downtown.
